The dangerous virus is spread via SMS messages. The attackers control the entire cell phone

In fraudulent reports, attackers usually impersonate employees of a transportation service, such as DHL. They inform the user about the delivery of the shipment, but he will find more detailed information in the given link.

Such tracking of shipments is by no means exceptional, so it is possible that even more prudent users will be fooled. After clicking on the link, they are prompted to install the utility application – and that is the stumbling block. If they do, they will unknowingly install Flubot malware on their device.

This uninvited visitor will completely control the infected device, so attackers can gain complete access to stored data and individual applications – for example, Internet banking.

“Operators are able to block part of harmful traffic from abroad by deploying security measures, but faulty SMS are often sent by the infected phones themselves, whose communication they cannot interfere with. Therefore, we urge customers above all to be very careful, “warned Jiří Grund, Executive Director of APMS.

It spreads mainly abroad

Fraudulent SMS messages were intercepted mainly in the United Kingdom, but also in Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Spain. According to Grund, there is a high probability that the virus is already in the Czech Republic.

Caution should be exercised when opening any links via SMS messages. Users should definitely not install any applications to which they receive a text message link from an unknown sender.
