The Dangerous Direction of the Modern World: Oto Klempíř Shares his Concerns

“I am convinced that they are working to prevent people from meeting each other. So that systems meet more and that people are digitized and spend their time more on business platforms. And it really bothers me,” says JAR singer Oto Klempíř about what scares him about the direction of the current world. According to him, people do not realize that the modern world is becoming more and more dangerous.

“We don’t see beyond the horizon. The twentieth century was more ‘clean’. Terrible things threatened, such as war, famine, food crisis, but now we don’t really know what is at risk,” Klempíř claims, adding that today’s world can at any time create authoritarians who cannot bear pluralist opinions and who can abuse experts or perhaps artificial intelligence at any time.

JAR alludes to where society is developing on its new record Jezus Kristus Neexistus?, which the band celebrated 33 years of its existence. While doing rap in the late eighties was not easy, according to Klempíř, today its representatives control the world and often open up burning questions that other musicians are unable to reflect on.

“The topics are and will continue to grow, because the world continues to develop and more and more people realize that the world is developing into a dangerous one,” explains Klempíř. He himself recalls how he himself encountered misunderstanding at the beginning of JAR’s musical career. “We were fools, everyone laughed at us,” he describes.

In the interview, the plumber also talks openly about his journey to sobriety. “I quit many times, it was always a terrible suffering. I couldn’t go to a bar and I couldn’t watch anyone smoking because I was just suffering. And I really wanted to solve it,” the musician describes. However, he finally managed to place sobriety as a priority in his value system. “A person must find a way to himself and give himself an ‘internal order’ that will assure you that you are doing it right,” concludes Klempíř, adding that he now knows that the world prefers him sober.
