The Danger of Counterfeit Medical Supplies in Lebanon

“Lebanese Debate”

With the continuation of the suffocating economic crisis and the inability to find radical solutions in Lebanon, the health of the Lebanese citizen has become in danger with the entry of medical supplies that are not duly registered and not imported through the Ministry of Health and are illegally introduced into Lebanese territory.

In this context, the Syndicate of Medical Supplies Importers, Salma Asi, confirmed to the “Lebanon Debate” that “the crisis we are suffering from today is a crisis of quality in medical supplies, not a shortage crisis.”

Assi expresses her surprise at the counterfeiting of medical supplies, so it is possible to understand the forgery of clothes, but when it comes to the imitation and counterfeiting of medical supplies and medicines, this is something out of the ordinary.

She revealed that “there are many companies in the market that sell medical supplies of unknown origin and are not registered with the Ministry of Health, so that their quality cannot be known to the extent that they break down while the doctor installs them for the patient, which poses a direct threat to the patient’s life.”

She pointed out that “the union is coordinating with the Ministry of Health, the Hospitals Syndicate and the Doctors Syndicate to combat this phenomenon, and to reach a solution through which we can reduce this matter in order to protect the patient’s health.”

In conclusion, Assi wished “citizens to check the source of medical supplies and medicine and to be careful so as not to fall victim to these counterfeit companies. She also wished all hospitals to adhere to the automated tracking system for medical supplies, and not to buy any medical supplies that are not registered with the Ministry of Public Health.” .
