Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Convenience makes many people prefer to chew the food on one side of the mouth, either right or left.
If you are one of them, try not to do that anymore.
Chewing food should be done equally on both sides of the mouth, not one of them. The habit of only chewing on one side can have an impact on oral hygiene and cause tartar.
Dental conservation specialist from Jakarta Pelni Hospital Rosdiana Nurul Annisa said that saliva will be produced when someone chews.
“One of the functions of saliva or saliva is self-cleaning to clean the mouth, so usually the side that has never been used to chew actually has more tartar,” said Rosdiana to Antara.
There are many functions of saliva or saliva in the mouth, including keeping the mouth dry and comfortable, helping chew and breaking food, tasting food and swallowing. In addition, saliva also contains proteins and minerals that protect the outer layer of teeth and prevent tooth decay and gum disease.
Saliva helps clean food particles from teeth, thereby reducing the risk of cavities.
Not only the problem of tartar, the habit of chewing in one part of the mouth also causes other problems. Rosdiana revealed that the joints on the sides of the mouth that are not used for chewing will weaken because they are not working. The teeth on the side that are used for chewing are heavier because everything is concentrated there.
Don’t let this continue. Recognize why you don’t like it and can’t chew food on both sides at the same time in a balanced way.
Rosdiana explained that it was possible to chew only on one side due to discomfort in the adjacent cavity. The source varies, there may be cavities that make food residue stuck into it.
“Just something that makes him unable to chew on the other side,” he said.
