The Damaging Effects of Staying Up Late on Liver Health: Insights from Dr. Reisa Broto Asmoro

Doctor and health observer, Dr. Reisa Broto Asmoro, appealed to the public not to engage in the habit of staying up late because this habit poses a number of risks that can damage the liver.

“Sleep is basic humans, at least seven to eight hours a day at night. “If the body is forced to change its sleeping hours to being awake, it can disrupt the body’s metabolic functions,” he said in a discussion regarding staying up late which was attended online in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Reisa said the habit of staying up late can disrupt the function of the body’s organs. Where a number of body organs such as the liver should be rested at night so that they can function as they should.

“Because after all, sleep is for us recharge “Again, if the body’s function is to be optimal, yes, you have to get enough sleep,” he said.

Reisa revealed that a number of studies have proven that the habit of staying up late can pose a risk of liver damage. One of them is the liver which is no longer able to filter toxins or detoxify the body.

Accumulated toxins, he said, can cause a number of liver problems such as hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, fatty liver, and even liver cancer.

“So we have to get enough sleep at night, at least in one sleep cycle our body enters a phase deep sleep (sleep soundly) two to three times,” he said.
