The features of the interior of kushaq suggest that it will offer a digital instrument panel and the focus will be on the ten-inch screen of the entertainment information system. Below it is a separate ventilation control.

The dashboard is divided by a horizontal bar, which extends into the ventilation vents. A similar element will be used by the upcoming fabia, in which the author already had the opportunity to sit. However, the fourth-generation Fabia will have circular side vents, unlike the angular appearance of the kushaq.

The orange decor on the dashboard, center tunnel and part of the door around the tweeter will probably be an additional element, but points to last year’s koncept Vision INfrom which the car comes.

The king also gets a four-cylinder
As Škoda stated in earlier trailers, the name comes from the millennia-old language Sanskrit, which is still one of the 22 official languages in India. In this “language of the gods,” “kushak” refers to a king or ruler. The letter “q” at the end of the novelty ranks among other crossovers and SUV brands.

Only supercharged petrol units are used for propulsion. The basis will be a three-cylinder three-cylinder, but a four-cylinder fifteen-cylinder will also remain on offer. The engines will be paired with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, or with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch housing.

Kushaq will not have to be a cheap car when it comes to equipment. For example, automatic air conditioning, LED headlights and electronic safety assistants will be available. Passengers are protected by up to six airbags, including the optional head and side airbags at the front.

Indian mission
Kushaq can be compared to European kamiqu in terms of segment. However, it is a completely unique model. It represents an important milestone for Škoda Auto, as it is the first car on the special modular platform MQB A0 IN, on which the brand will build other models as part of Volkswagen’s activities in the world’s second most populous country.

It is Škoda that has been the leader of the India 2.0 group project in India since 2018. As part of this project, the Volkswagen Group is investing a total of one billion euros, of which 275 million euros is in research and development of compact SUVs and liftbacks.
–
A key element of this strategy is a special platform with the nickname IN, which is being developed in India together with 250 local engineers. The market for often obsolete technologies is changing and kushaq has to respect the new, stricter safety emission standards in force in India.

A high level of localization is planned for new cars, which according to Škoda will reach 95 percent. Technical development is taking place in Pune, where a technology center was opened in January 2019. Škoda currently offers the Rapid, Octavia, Superb and SUV Karoq and Kodiaq models on the Indian market. In 2019, approximately three million cars were sold in India, which has a population of more than 1.3 billion. At the same time, the trend has been growing in recent years.
