Recycling is one of the phenomena of today. We are all familiar with the blue, yellow, green and white containers. These have recently become widely available in orange and gray as well. In some municipalities you will also come across those with pink lids. Many of us associate separate collection “only” with ecology, but for many families it is also advantageous from an economic point of view. How to save and order correctly at the same time?
Ecologically and economically
The company creates very strong pressure on recycling of waste, which is why its opposite, which is “non-recycling”, is becoming increasingly financially burdened. There is an increase in the price of municipal waste collection, which as citizens we have to pay directly, whether we have our own bin or a shared one for a condominium or SVJ. The bins for separate waste collection are instead subsidized by the municipal treasury. In addition, their number is growing from year to year and they appear in more places. Thanks to this, you can reduce the frequency of collection of your waste and thus save a lot of money.
What belongs where
As we have already mentioned in the introduction, the sorting containers are numerous and are distinguished mainly by color. If you are unsure or don’t remember the colors, read their labels. Most containers contain this information. In addition, it is integrated with the symbols that you can find on the packaging. This way you can reliably find out what belongs where. Yellow stands for plastic, blue symbolizes paper, while you put glasses and glass in green or white containers.
Metal containers, which you can recognize by their gray color, and beverage cartons, associated with orange, have also expanded. In particular, you can also sort the used oil in selected places, these containers have a pink lid or are described. The oil must always be placed in a resealable plastic bottle.
Don’t be afraid to order
Most of the time we select paper and plastic, because they take up more space in homes and make sense even for loyal “non-selectors”. Either way, it should be an unpolluted raw material. The paper must not be smelled or greased and must not be in the final phase of the recycling cycle, this is the case with disposable handkerchiefs, absorbent paper and toilet paper.
It is a tradition that even toilet paper rolls and egg cups are unsuitable for sorting. The opposite is true. So, if you don’t use them in your home compost, know that thanks to advanced technologies, you can also safely throw this packaging in the blue bins. Also, don’t forget the cardboard boxes that take up too much space in your regular trash. However, avoid gypsum or specialty paper, which we are not yet able to recycle properly.
Get rid of the myths
Maybe you have decided not to recycle because it seems too complicated. But recycling is very simple and the sorting line will do a lot of the work for you. Don’t be afraid to throw a jar with a lid into glass containers. Do not dispose of pressurized containers such as deodorants or hairspray in metal waste, as they may explode during the entire process. Indeed, in some municipalities it is already possible to throw whole capsules into the coffee machine, that is, with the coffee grounds.
Plastic containers contain a large amount of waste, but this does not include toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes or materials combined with paper. It is good to separate them. But the plastic shouldn’t be too dirty. Thanks to advanced technologies, we are going further and further in recycling.
