Slovakia mourns the “wild water” sports person. Former water slalom skier Peter Nagy died at the age of 56 after a long illness. The two-time Olympian, who participated in the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta and Sydney, represented Czechoslovakia and then Slovakia. His biggest success was the bronze medal at the 1991 World Championships from the patrol race.
Slovakia and the Czechia were hit by sad news. Representatives Slovak canoeing informed on their website about the death of 56-year-old Peter Nagy, who was a long-time representative in water slalom and especially the K1 discipline.
The kayaker, nicknamed “Daddy” and a native of Bratislava, first represented Czechoslovakia a then Slovakia. He won the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000. Under five laps, he finished 13th and 12th.
His biggest success was the bronze medal from the 1991 World Cup, which he won in the patrol race. His name appeared in the World Cup for eleven seasons, finishing 9th best. He became the champion of Slovakia twice and in 2001 he won the Ondrej Cibák Memorial.
