Unlike the United Kingdom or the United States, the European Union will have to wait a few more weeks for the vaccine for the population. No vaccine has yet been approved and registered in the European Union, and once that happens, it will be possible to start vaccination immediately. It will be voluntary and completely free in the Czech Republic.
The European Medicines Agency has already received an application for approval of the vaccine from Pfizer. It could approve it on December 29. “Regarding Britain, the English Medicines Agency, which has now approved it, is an approval that is only a temporary approval in an emergency and can be terminated at any time,” says the director of the State Institute for Drug Control. Irena Storová.
However, according to the Minister of Health, the Czechia is not going to take this step. For example, Remdesivir was given to patients in the spring without registration.
“However, if we are talking about a vaccine that is given to healthy people in order to improve their health and thus prevent the development of the disease, then I will certainly not recommend that we ask for an exception,” said Minister of Health Jan Blatný (for YES).
“It is for the safety of patients and it is good that it is so,” said MP Vlastimil Válek (TOP 09).
However, according to experts, the vaccine is already sufficiently tested and safe, so its registration is said to be just a formality. “All of these vaccines have undergone a demanding validation process, which means that they have undergone the three phases of clinical studies,” says immunologist Václav Hořejší.
In the Czech Republic, the construction of temporary vaccination centers, which has already begun abroad, is only planned.
Obama, Bush and Clinton have announced that they will be publicly vaccinated:
