The Czech retail chain started selling chicken for 500 CZK. This is power, and it’s about to get worse

Food prices have worried customers over the past few months. Emotionally, it seems like every time you come to the store, the purchase is a little more expensive. And you don’t have to be too far from the truth, because some items go up in price practically all the time and others very often. For example, the Kofola company has raised its drink prices three times this year, and that probably wasn’t the last time.

Inaccessible price

It is true, however, that looking at the prices of some items is particularly striking. During our visit to the Albert chain, we noticed, for example, a whole chicken that was selling for almost 500 crowns and weighed not even two kilos. A more detailed look then showed that the price of a kilogram of whole chicken was 249 crowns.

In this particular case, it was no ordinary chicken. It was certified organic. This obviously raises the price, but it’s still an amount we weren’t used to seeing in similar cases.

Cheap chicken doesn’t have to be a win

The price of a normal whole chicken today varies between 90 and 140 crowns per kilogram. This is a significant price increase from last year, which also appears to be far from over. Farmers have already announced that food prices will rise and in any case poultry should be no exception.

So people look for cheaper options and when they see chicken in action, they often go for it. On the other hand, the low price can have its payback. This type of chicken usually comes from Poland and there has been a really bad thing recently. It turned out that the chickens here were fed with feed that contained technical oils.
