In the Czech Republic, it is an absolute standard that people in their twenties and thirties do everything to be able to get into debt for the rest of their lives and buy their own home. It’s like a holy grail that everyone wants. After all, 80% of all people in the country live in their own home, although this is not entirely true, because until the mortgage is paid off, the apartment or house is actually the bank’s property.
Bad living
But few people realize how much people compromise their standards for this dream. For example, people who have lived in Prague all their lives no longer have the opportunity to buy a more reasonable home for their family, unless they belong to a few percent of the highest earners. Realistically, they have to move to different places all over the country, for example as far as Pilsen, where they can find a house in the suburbs or in a satellite village.
However, the reality of this housing often differs from what you dreamed of. User Jaroslav Jelínek drew attention to this on the X social network. “That’s how you save up, go around mortgages, plan for the future, and then you get the keys to this,” he stated and attached photos of newly built terraced houses, which most of all resemble the proverbial “rabbit huts”.
Of course, these houses were not cheap and it meant a huge deal for the developer. For the new owners themselves, however, it is often a life-long pain in the leg and debatable quality of housing. People agree that it is a very depressing project and the question is how to live in it. At the same time, the clients probably paid sums of around ten million crowns to be able to move in.

Are these social apartments?
“So the house itself is not a complete beauty. But planted in a different environment – a micro front yard with a suitable micro tree, a sidewalk, a green belt between the sidewalk and the road, it would look somewhat different,” says Darina Vymětalíková.

“On the Cape Verde island of Sal, they are building something similar to social housing and trying to get people from the slums there. Perhaps the same architect,” pointed out another of the discussants. Many people agree that these could be social apartments. They are not, however, but a purely commercial matter, for which the developer claimed a considerable sum.
