Due to the pandemic, companies need temporary workers for work other than in previous years before Christmas. The production lacks foreign workers and people in quarantine or nursing home. Demand is due to the expansion of e-shops for warehouse workers and drivers. There is a great interest on the part of part-time workers, especially from employees of closed restaurants. Wages have not changed much compared to last year. This follows from a ČTK survey among recruitment agencies.

“This autumn brings an increased demand for part-time workers from manufacturing companies as well. They need to complete the contract by the end of the year, but due to the growing number of disabilities, quarantines and people in the nursing, they lack staff, “Martin Malo, director of Grafton Recruitment, told ČTK.

Production companies in the South Moravian and Plzeň regions are mostly looking for part-time workers, but according to him, great interest in candidates is also evident in the Olomouc and Liberec regions. “We have seen a shortage of foreign workers, who have traditionally made up a large part of the seasonal workforce. Their lack is most felt in the Liberec region, where companies usually used part-time workers from Poland, “he added. According to him, on the other hand, interest from local applicants is growing, with students applying for brigades and employees from fields that had to reduce or suspend their operations due to measures against the spread of covid-19.
–
“The number of brigades currently on offer is significantly lower compared to last year. Most retail stores are closed, tourists are minimal, so reinforcements for pre-Christmas sales are not needed at the moment. However, if they are opened, demand may still rise relatively quickly, “said Olga Švarcová, head of temporary employment at Hays. The sectors that will now be used by temporary workers are, for example, production, logistics and distribution or food chains. The salary evaluation remained unchanged for this year, depending on the field and position from 120 to 200 crowns per hour.

According to ManpowerGroup director Jiří Halbrštát, the situation before Christmas for part-time workers is a big question mark. Most jobs are created in the pre-Christmas sale. If most retail stores remain closed until Christmas, it will be a big problem for temporary workers, he says.
–
E-shops and related logistics and delivery services are being prepared for an unprecedented increase in customers, he pointed out. These companies are looking for warehouse manipulators, drivers or customer service people. Traditional retail is still waiting to be recruited. On the contrary, people’s interest in brigades is several times greater. On the one hand, people from closed businesses in gastronomy, hospitality, tourism and services are looking for extra income. Furthermore, mothers with small children, who are dependent on part-time work, which is now little available, have far fewer opportunities, he said.
–
Traditionally, applicants for a part-time job in administration, warehouses or e-commerce are most interested, while, according to Mala, part-time workers are least interested in working in production. The hourly wage of part-time workers is stagnating in many regions, but in the Ostrava, Liberec, Brno and Plzeň regions it increased slightly year-on-year. On average, a part-time worker in the Olomouc region earns CZK 120 per hour, in the Brno or Ostrava region CZK 130, and in some regions he can get as much as CZK 140 with extra charges, Malo added.
