The Czech national football team is sure that they will play in the March draw for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
This was decided by Saturday’s sovereign victory of France over Kazakhstan 8: 0 in the qualifying D-group. Thanks to him, the trustees of coach Jaroslav Šilhavý will get into the playoffs at worst as one of the two winners of the League of Nations groups.
Only the winners of the qualifying groups will advance directly to the championship, the teams in the second place will be waiting for the playoffs. The two best winners of the LN groups, who failed in the qualification, will get into it.
Although the Czechs dropped in third place in the E-group after winning Wales 5: 1 in Belarus before Tuesday’s final duel with Estonia, they will not lose the playoffs. Thanks to last year’s championship in group B2, the League of Nations would be between the two advancing to the playoffs.
The Czechs can still take second place in their qualifying group, but they need not only to beat Estonia on Tuesday, but also to hope that Wales will lose to the group’s winner, Belgium. In the event of a tie, the score would decide and the Welshmen currently have a two-way difference in score than the Czech Republic.
Šilhavého team was in the order of LN winners in the seventh position behind France, Belgium, Italy, Spain (League A), Wales and Austria (League B). After France’s victory, it is already clear that at least five of these six teams will finish worst in second place. The draw of the playoffs will take place on November 26.
