“In the case of Jihlava, from the point of view of the central banker, it is impossible not to mention that this city owes its long-term architectural development to wealth gained from silver mining, which was once accompanied by its own coinage,” said CNB Governor Jiří Rusnok. He added that, several centuries later, Jihlava again has its own coin, this time made of the most precious metal.

The Jihlava Municipal Monument Reserve is one of the largest surviving urban complexes in the Czech Republic. There are buildings from the early Gothic period, of which the three churches from the 13th century stand out, referring to the prosperity of the city at that time. The need to rebuild the city after a devastating fire comes with Renaissance-style construction, followed by buildings from the Baroque and Classicist periods.

The author of the golden five thousandth crown dedicated to Jihlava is the medalist Luboš Charvát. The CNB issues 3100 coins in the standard and 7600 coins in the top version. They were issued by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou. The face value of the coin is not the same as the selling price. The selling price is significantly higher, taking into account, among other things, the current price of gold and the costs associated with production. For example, the Czech Mint announces on its website the sale of a coin in a standard design for CZK 23,450.

This year, the five-year cycle was opened by coins with a motif of the city of Cheb. Another gold coin from the series of the Municipal Monument Reserve will be presented by Mikulov in South Moravia and will be issued by the CNB in May 2022.
