Czech Ambassador to Russia Vítězslav Pivoňka will attend the military parade this Sunday in Red Square, on the 76th anniversary of the end of World War II.
This participation sparked outrage in the ranks of the opposition over recent revelations that Russian intelligence agents were responsible for deadly explosions at an ammunition depot in Vrbětice in 2014.
According to the Foreign Ministry Vítězslav Pivoňka wants to pay tribute to the soldiers of the Red Army who fell during the liberation of Czechoslovakia. The Czech ambassador is not the only one from the European Union to attend the parade since German, French and Belgian diplomats will also be present.
