Driver the car that hit the cyclist from Harmony, Central Jakarta surrendered to the Central Jakarta Metro Police. The driver with the initials ML (35) admitted to working as an online taxi driver.
“I work as an online driver in Grab,” ML told Central Jakarta Metro Police reporters on Saturday (11/5/2022).
ML then explained the chronology of the event. He admits he’s panicked.
“In chronological terms, I was at a red light, Harmoni, my position was a green light. Suddenly, a bicycle passed in front of my car,” he said.
“I panicked and was carrying a foreign passenger. So I ran away, panicked, that’s why I went to the Central Jakarta Metro Police today,” he added.
ML said he came to Central Jakarta Metro Police to take responsibility for the cyclist’s fatal accident in Harmoni this morning. On that occasion, he also apologized for the incident.
“For being responsible for what I did and I want to apologize to the victim and I will be held accountable. I hope he is in good health and my apology is accepted by him,” she said.
ML admitted that he intended to take responsibility from the start. However, she postponed his intention to her because she had to take her passengers to their destination.
“I meant (responsibility) from the beginning, I thought about it from the morning because I was taking a foreign passenger to Cikande, I was in Cikande for almost half a day, I finally got the courage to go to the Central Police in Jakarta,” he explained.
He believes the light was green at the time of the accident. However, he pleaded guilty to escaping.
“Because I think I’m right, I’m the green light, it’s my fault that I escaped, I’m not responsible for the victim and I really want to be, but we also have passengers,” said ML.
