Surrounded by balls from a very young age, the Scotsman’s dream Oliver Burke (Kirkcaldy, 7-4-1997), it was always, as in the case of many other children, to be able to one day become a professional footballer to debut in a league as important as the Premier League. Also known in Spain because in the 2019-20 campaign he was in Mendizorroza’s dressing room, Burke now plays in the Sheffield United, the current bottom of the English championship, carrying on his back the heavy slab that they are responsible for reminding him over and over again fans of rival teams with their comments on social networks. That this player appears in the line-ups of his teams is synonymous with success for his opponents because in the 25 games he has played so far in the Premier League he was never victorious. Like when he was a child, he dreams again, but now his dream is to be able to break that cursed streak to finally celebrate his first victory.
Formed in the lower categories of Nottingham ForestBurke, 23, packed his bags in 2016 to play in the Bundesliga with the Leipzig, who paid 15 million euros for him. A transfer that delayed his dream of debuting in the Premier League, although he was soon able to fulfill it because he only stayed one year in Germany. That season he played 15 games with the West Brom, only two of them as a starter, but in none of them his team ended up celebrating the victory. The dream was beginning to turn into a nightmare.
After being loaned out in early 2019 to Celtic, in the 2020-21 campaign he reached the Alaves also on loan. His last trip before starting his second experience in the Premier League, this time in the ranks of Sheffield United, which paid 6,500,000 euros for it. But Burke has transferred his curse to his new team.
