The VW Passat is already looking for a successor. Significant changes await it, it is to be offered in a single body version.

The Volkswagen Passat continues to hold a strong position in its midsize car category. However, the interest of European clients in this type of car has been declining for a long time, which now also applies to the Passat. And so Volkswagen must respond, which is also reflected in the preparations for the coming generation.
The new Passat with the internal designation B9 is being prepared for 2023, with There has long been speculation that its offer will be limited to station wagons. This is now also confirmed by David Valenta, PR of the Czech representation of the Volkswagen brand. “The next generation of the Passat will be just a Variant,” he says.

This is a logical step, as station wagons clearly predominate in sales in the European mid-range market. Specifically, the Passat Variant on the Czech market accounts for about 85% of sales of this model.
At the same time, however, this does not mean that Volkswagen will completely leave the mid-size sedan segment. A new middle-class electric car, nicknamed the ID.Aero, is in preparation and is to be offered as a sedan.
The approaching arrival of the new generation of Passat thus logically means an adjustment of the offer of the current generation. Britain, for example, has heard reports of the premature end of sedan production. However, such reports probably only concern right-hand drive cars.
“We do not currently have any news from the production plant about the earlier cessation of production of the current Passat Limousine model, and the cars we ordered are still planned for production until July 2022, when it is planned to cease production of this version,” says Valenta. However, the sedan is already available on the Czech market only from stocks, due to the exhaustion of production quotas. The variant can still be configured.

In the coming months, we can look forward to information about the new VW Passat. However, we already know about extensive changes.
The production of the car will move to Bratislava, where the new Passat will be produced alongside the new Škoda Superb using the same technology. Existing The Passat production plant in Emden, Germany, will be gradually rebuilt to produce electric cars. The latest technology is also taken into account. Behind the scenes reports, for example, the deployment of a new generation of plug-in hybrid drive, with 1.5 TSIs and significantly larger batteries than today. These should provide a range of up to 100 km in pure electric mode, in addition, they should offer faster charging.
