The current approach to identifying countries at risk is currently appropriate / Day

On Thursday, the cumulative incidence of Covid-19 in Estonia is 25.9 cases per 100,000 population, which means that on Friday Estonia will most likely be included in the list of countries from which Latvia will have to observe 14 days of self-isolation. In turn, Lithuania has called on Latvia and Estonia to raise the 14-day cumulative Covid-19 morbidity threshold in the so-called Baltic bubble, according to which mandatory self-isolation must be observed when entering the country.

Skvarik recalled that the cut-off criterion – a 14-day cumulative morbidity of 16 per 100,000 inhabitants – in the European Union (EU) was set from 10 June this year to third countries that are subject to restrictions in the EU. At the time, it was the EU average.

According to him, this indicator has been set in order to identify those countries where the prevalence of Covid-19 is so high that people from these countries pose additional risks of Covid-19 prevalence.

The lower the incidence of Covid-19 in a country and the more closely it is associated with cases imported from abroad, the more cautious the country needs to be in identifying countries from which there is a risk of Covid-19 spreading on entry.

In Latvia, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate is currently between four and five, which means that in countries where the rate exceeds 16, the risk of Covid-19 spread is four times higher. “In view of the above, we believe that the current approach to identifying countries at risk is appropriate,” said a spokesman for the ministry.

He has no information at his disposal that an extraordinary meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers could be convened on this issue on Friday.

It has already been reported that the residents of Valka and Valga municipalities will be able to disregard 14 days of self-isolation in Latvia if they cross the border with Estonia on a daily basis and move without crossing the borders of the administrative territories of both localities, the government decided on Tuesday.

Amendments to the regulations supported by the Cabinet of Ministers Epidemiological precautions to limit the spread of Covid-19 infection provides for an appropriate derogation in the event that Estonia is included in the list of countries from which self-isolation is required on return.

The Ministry of Health explained earlier that for the rest of Latvia’s border, the government decided last week to apply special regulations at the border so that people who work or study in Lithuania or Estonia on a daily basis could continue to do so if morbidity increased in neighboring countries.

With the rising incidence of Covid-19 in Estonia, this neighboring country is unlikely to escape the fall of the so-called “Baltic bubble” this week for TV3. 900 seconds On September 8, the Minister of Health Ilze Hänķele (AP) allowed.

At present, people who have come into contact with a Covid-19 patient or visited countries with a relatively high morbidity rate have to observe 14 days of self-isolation in Latvia.
