The cultural sector reports the relatively largest loss of turnover to the UWV | with 62 percent NOW

The cultural sector reported the largest loss of turnover to the UWV between 6 July and 4 September with an average of 62 percent. This is followed by the cleaning sector (52 percent) and other commercial services (51 percent). This is evident from figures released by the administrative body, which works on behalf of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment.

1,363 cultural institutions were granted 50,420,031 euros in advances by the UWV between July and September. In that period, commercial services received the largest number of grants (13,791) and the highest total amount of advances (438,303,498 euros). The advance payments are due in installments and will therefore increase.

According to the UWV, 1,363 cultural institutions were allocated during that period as part of the second Temporary Emergency Bridging Measure for Employment (NOW 2.0). This scheme was set up to reimburse employers who expect a minimum of 20 percent loss of turnover due to the corona crisis up to 90 percent of the wage costs.

In April, a task force of umbrella organizations calculated that the total loss of turnover of the cultural sector due to the corona crisis until 1 June would amount to 969 million euro. In the same month the cabinet withdrew 300 million euros extra to support the sector, an amount raised by 482 million euros was increased.
