The image that illustrates this news will not be repeated during the next Christmas holidays due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It corresponds to the coexistence lunch for solidarity purposes organized by the Cultural Center of Nerva in December of last year. The budget for organizing this event was around 600 euros. Faced with the impossibility of being able to repeat the experience until the current health crisis is overcome, the Board of Directors of this more than century-old Society, second oldest in Spain, has decided to donate a similar amount to the Asylum for the Elderly in the mining town.
In addition, according to the president of the Cultural Center, Francisco José Vázquez, “for Christmas Eve dinner or Christmas lunch (to be determined), we plan to deliver 25 Christmas menus to the elderly women and caregivers of the asylum “. In a statement addressed to its members, the Board of Directors of the Centro Cultural de Nerva argues the decision adopted: “Within 6 days, 250 people, including members and companions of the Cultural Center, would be enjoying an excellent convivial lunch. As this year, due to Covid19 restrictions, we cannot carry it out, we have decided to allocate part of the amount that the Society assigned to said event, to the Nerva Nursing Home. We will have a menu similar to the one that attendees usually enjoy every year, so that the elderly and their caregivers spend a different day. Once again, thanks to the partners for their loyalty to this more than century-old entity. We hope to soon be able to organize all the recreational and cultural activities that characterize this Casino ”.
At last year’s Christmas lunch, which was attended by more than a hundred members, the Nerva Cultural Center managed to raise more than 600 euros which were allocated to the acquisition of an armchair-bed for the Pediatric Area of the Regional Hospital of Riotinto within the framework of the project ‘The blue armchair’ of the Foundation ‘El Gancho Infantil’. The Comarca hospital center received the chair-bed in September of this year.
