Hamburg (dpa / lno) – The Hamburg cultural authority is supporting 20 independent publishers during the corona pandemic. For this, one-off future premiums totaling 155,000 euros will be awarded, as the authority announced on Monday. The money is intended to support independent publishers in a targeted manner in order to cushion economic losses caused by the corona pandemic and to guarantee the diversity of independent publishing. 47 publishers applied and a jury selected the award-winning publishing programs. The bonuses should be paid out in 2020.
“The journalistic life in Hamburg is diverse, committed and always gives us great reading experiences”, said Senator for Culture Carsten Brosda (SPD). In addition to the publishers, the authors, “and not least all of us as readers,” benefited from the prizes of 5,000 to 15,000 euros.
