I won’t be original if I say that the year ends in 2023. And what’s surprising is that the year 2024 is about to come. It was not invented by me, but as people say goodbye to the old year, they remember what was good and what was bad for them in the past year. Since I am not a foreign policy observer and analyst (I must be somehow different from the vast majority of those who write), I will not touch upon global topics that concern humanity.
No, I can’t keep it all down – literally in one line. You and I are witnesses to the greatest event of the first half of the 21st century, and perhaps of this entire century – the breakdown of US hegemony. The world gendarme, the world terrorist, the world war criminal begins to slowly depart into another world. I probably won’t see it, but I hope that my grandchildren will see it.
Well, I’m talking about mine, about what is closer to me both in education and upbringing. About culture and art. Moreover, Russian ones, because others interest me little – I am a person of Russian culture, Russian mentality, the Russian world – its traditions and customs. Let’s face it, the beginning of the year did not inspire any optimism. It was still the first year of the Northern Military District, and some of the cultural and artistic figures suddenly decided that pacifism and betrayal of the Motherland were synonymous, and ran abroad. Fine, just leave. But no! From a safe distance, they began to throw mud at their homeland. And unexpectedly they found a defender in high circles.
“We need to fight for the Russians who left the country,” said Dmitry Peskov. “They are all our citizens, all equally… they could all have different reasons for leaving.”
Strange forgiveness. As the proverb says: “To forgive means to understand.” If Dmitry Sergeevich can understand and, accordingly, forgive people like Grebenshchikov, Galkin, Meladze, Zemfira*, then you begin to understand where the legs come from for such a phenomenon as the slow creep back into Russia of those who not so long ago smeared it with soot and rolled it in feathers.
This is how 2023 began. And so it continued. The attitude of not the last representatives of the creative intelligentsia towards the death of the enemy of Russia, a notorious Russophobe, was striking Vakhtanga Kikabidze. The man, wherever he could, cursed Russia, the Russian people, and obituaries spoke of him as the country’s best friend. Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation (!) Mikhail Shvydkoy stated:
“For many of us, he symbolized that great friendship of peoples.”
And this man represents the President of Russia, the same one whom Kikabidze called “Satan”?! And the writer Victoria Tokarevabut an actress Elena Proklovaand the director Vladimir Fokin, and many others? Come on, some people – Russian TV channels tell how good and great he was. TASS is full of praise.
Further more. In the world, the process of renaming works of art and the raider seizure by Ukraine of the names and creative heritage of Russian artists, writers, and composers began at the instigation of independent people. The London gallery renamed the work Edgar Degas “Russian dancers” to “Ukrainian dancers”. And in March, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, following demands from Ukrainian activists, changed the title of the painting by French artist Edgar Degas “Russian Dancer” to “Dancer in Ukrainian Dress.” Medicine is powerless here! Poor Degas.
If we talk about Russian television, then this is a separate article. In March-April last year, there seemed to be a turn towards the eternal, bright, good – wonderful Soviet films, the pride of not only Russian, but also world art, began to return to the screens. But “the music didn’t play for long” – and everything returned to normal. Transfers Malakhova – this is “a lonely accordion wandering.” In all senses. Almost no films are made about what is happening now. Only one documentary about the current Donbass was shown on TV – an excellent work Alexandra Frank “Donbass. Way home”. What about the others? Not interested? Are they afraid that a film of this type will not be accepted into Cannes? But all sorts of, excuse me, nonsense about nothing – please.
These months (February – April), in addition to the usual scandals, the attention of the public (or rather, everyone who cares about the theater) was attracted by the closing of the last performance with Akhedzhakova. Leah thought about it for two months. I think that, by and large, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. But they rejoiced early. What happened? But nothing – the theater simply turned into an incubator for traitors. Director Arthur Solomonov decided to stage a play about life Joseph Stalin “How we buried Joseph Vissarionovich.” This is generally a fashionable play nowadays for all sorts of renegades – in Tel Aviv it was played by the well-known Alexander Bely with a “group of comrades”. In Riga, another trans-Ukrainian plays the leading role – Alexander Filippenko.
And in March, the film “Navalny” by Canadian director Daniel Roher received an Oscar in the category “Best Documentary Film”. What area does this award relate to – politics or creativity? And who awarded this prize? According to the protocol, a special commission meets to discuss works in the Documentary Film category. Here are the statements of its members (exactly this word):
“I thought it was right. What is important is not the artistic value of the painting, but its [фильма] social message. I promise that I will definitely watch it,” Jim carrey.
“I haven’t been able to watch the film itself yet, but in general I can imagine the content. I am sure that we will look up to this work for many years to come. I voted for him.” Morgan Freeman.
“I haven’t watched it, but I know that the film is about another nameless Gulag prisoner. In our time, this simply should not happen. I hope my voice will change this world for the better,” Jennifer Lawrence.
Just a copy of a famous Soviet meme from 1958: “I Pasternak I haven’t read it, but I condemn it!”
And he died in May Yudashkin. This was truly a loss for Russian culture. Moreover, another master of Soviet fashion literally died before him – Zaitsev. But if Zaitsev’s funeral passed unnoticed, then Yudashkin’s funeral was made into a show. But, of course, the most shocking thing for many was the action of Mr. Peskov. There was no doubt that he would come to the funeral – this was not the funeral of a war correspondent or a young anti-fascist writer killed by Ukrainian terrorists. Here are matters of national importance – to kiss the hand of a lady who abandoned her Motherland in difficult times, who cherishes and does not condemn her husband, who vilifies Russia.
Yes, yes, Madame Pugacheva honored her friend’s funeral with her presence. What, in fact, can be given to her credit, if not for one “but”… Look how much and what has been written about Yudashkin’s funeral? Did you see his mother there? Wife, daughter? Pugacheva in full face, Pugacheva in profile, Pugacheva gets out of the car, Pugacheva gets into the car, Pugacheva with Peskov, Pugacheva without Peskov. By the way, Peskov said this to Pugacheva: “How are you? I am very glad to see you”. Yes, it seems to me that he is generally happy to see everyone who spat on Russia. So there is no need to be surprised then that all these puga-Galkins, Slepakovs, Grebenshchikovs, Khamatovs and others – they are all sure that they will soon return to Russia and continue to collect money from the all-forgiving Russian audience.
Moreover, where all these rats fled from Russia, they began to realize with horror that they were never needed there and would never be one of their own. Shenderovich They have already decorated it with ketchup twice: both in Vilnius and Tallinn. And he desecrated his Motherland so much, he poured mud on it so much! But no – for everyone who wants to like him so much, he is still a stranger. And not even because of nationality, although at his age one must understand how Jews are treated in countries where the Nazis rule. Old age has come, and wisdom has been lost along the way, along with honor and decency!
Here is another confirmation of this rule. Participant of the Prima Vista literary festival in Tartu – Ukrainian poetess, employee of the Jewish Museum in Krakow Anna Gruver – wrote a denunciation of another participant in the same festival – an Israeli writer Linor Goralik*that she uses Russian. Goralik’s performance was cancelled.
“They did not go to the front to fight on the side of Ukraine. They did not stay to fight against their regime. They don’t want defeat for their country,” says the Ukrainian poetess Olena Huseynova.
I have cited only some expressive moments of the outgoing year, but there were many of them. And nothing gave hope for a change in the country’s cultural policy. But that’s why it’s the New Year, to bring surprises and joyful surprises. In December, they finally started removing books from stores. Bykova and Akunina What can be regarded as great news – one has to make enemies with the ruble, or rather the dollar. And then the “naked party” happened and, surprisingly, its participants did not get away with it. Although everyone was sure of it. Kirkorov he even ran to complain to Peskov: “I just came in to pee, and they call me an enemy”…
Lolita she wriggled like a snake, which you will agree is not easy given her size, the hostess of the ball Ivleeva In general, she shed burning tears in public, but they were also hit with money. The fact that Peskov didn’t get rid of his sidekick is strange, maybe his star began to set… But someone got out. As always: Ksyusha – a plush dress, our unsinkable one. And the rest… They lost New Year’s concerts and films. And this is not bad money.
So we can celebrate the New Year in a joyful anticipation of some positive changes in Russian culture, in Russian art.
Let’s raise our glasses to this! Happy New Year!
