At around 11 a.m. on November 12, 2004, an emergency call was made to 112. The reporter was a relative of the child who first witnessed the incident. A child over 10 years old found his father’s body after returning home from class in the morning and asked a relative who lived nearby for help.

On the day of the incident, the child found his father’s body rolled up in a blanket. There was blood flowing all around, and the victim lived with his wife and young children. On that day, the wife stated that after taking the children to school, she prepared a meal for her husband and stayed in the sauna.

The blood stains did not appear to indicate a struggle, leading to speculation that the crime occurred while the victim was asleep. Traces of multiple blunt force strikes on the victim’s head and two puncture wounds were found on the abdomen. According to a request from the National Forensic Service, the cause of death was excessive bleeding due to a stab wound.

There were almost no traces of the culprit. There were only two people’s blood traces left in the small room. If it was a fake robbery case, it could be a case of an unknown criminal, so we surveyed 2,300 ex-convicts of the same type who would be considered suspects.

Surprisingly, my wife Lee was very calm. Mr. Lee and the victim divorced in the past, but got back together due to child custody issues. Although they were not living together, the husband had recently moved into the wife’s home due to illness.

I figured out my wife’s usual movements, searched all the public phones there, and got call records. Because not many people used public phones, there were only about 5 to 6 call records per phone, and among them, there were duplicate cell phone numbers.

The owner of the phone number was a woman in her 30s, and it was canceled immediately after the incident. When I checked with the person in charge, he said that the number was written by my younger brother. My younger brother asked me to cancel it, so I canceled it, and he said he couldn’t contact me after that.

When I looked through my younger brother’s call history, I found a man my age who contacted me particularly frequently. The number was still alive at that time. The younger brother lived in Seoul, and the male peer lived in Goseong, Gangwon-do, and both were located at a base station near the scene from dawn to morning on the day of the incident.

So, we were immediately dispatched to the house of a man of the same age as Goseong, Gangwon-do. I saw that there was someone inside the house, so I knocked on the door. The man who had been talking on the phone with his wife, Mr. Lee, was also inside the house. When the police asked, “Do you know why I came?” the young man said, “Yes, I came because of a murder case.”

When the two were separated and interrogated separately, they testified that “my aunt ordered it,” and that the aunt was his wife, Mr. Lee. The wife, Mr. Lee, very persistently ordered the murder of her husband.

Neither of them had a criminal record, and they were friends. He was addicted to gambling, received deposit money three times, and used it all for gambling. He confessed that from February 2004 to November 2004, the three planned the murder together, and that they faked a car accident and tried to push the body off a cliff, but then disguised it as a robbery and killed him because it seemed too expensive.

The wife said that she caught the murderer as soon as she caught him, and that she was resigned to it because she thought the detectives would come.
