the Cuban Leonardo Padura in Nancy

He is too rare in the small world of literary stars and the meeting of the Book on the Place is the only one he will devote to the French public this year: Leonardo Padura will be the event on Tuesday June 7 at the Town Hall of Nancy, where he will present his new book. A real nugget dedicated to the novel in Cuba and entitled Water everywhere. Living and writing in Cuba. The meeting is organized by Le Livre sur la Place, with the complicity of Pascal Salciarini for L’Est Républicain and Ruben Orjales, interpreter. It will be followed by a dedication.

Living and writing in Cuba

Leonardo Padura, 67, was born in Havana. He is one of the greatest contemporary authors. A graduate in Hispano-American literature, novelist, essayist, journalist and author of screenplays for the cinema, he has received numerous prestigious awards which have raised him to the rank of the great names of world literature. A sought-after novelist for his vision of the imaginary, he won the Princess of Asturias prize in 2015, which is considered the Spanish Goncourt. He is the author, among others, of a tetralogy entitled The four Seasons published in fifteen countries. His three novels, The Man Who Loved Dogs (2011), Heretics (2014) and Dust in the Wind (2021) are among the bestsellers of Hispanic literature, translated all over the world. Leonardo Padura is also known for having created a recurring character of a sympathetic and somewhat clueless cop, Mario Count.

Attachment to the native land

Padura’s novels tell the story of Cuba and exile, the loss of friendship and love. With Water everywhere, Living and writing in Cuba (Métailié) Padura signs a collection of essays in which he explores behind the scenes of his works. A very personal, engaging, touching and often bittersweet book. It allows us to identify the work of the man who knew how to thwart censorship by publishing his novels in Spain before having them reprinted in Cuba. Unlike many writers who went into exile, Leonardo Padura never left his country. This attachment to his native land can be read in all his texts and gives an additional dimension to his work.
