The “crusade” failed. Russia has passed judgment on the US and its allies – 2024-02-16 05:50:50

/ world today news/ Lavrov spoke at the UN Security Council about the destructive actions of the West

The ministerial-level debate with the participation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov ended in the UN Security Council. The Middle East settlement was supposed to be discussed, but Moscow insisted on talking about the Ukrainian conflict. What did the representatives of the West hear?

Weapons and Mercenaries

Unlike the extraordinary meetings of the Security Council, convened at the request of its participants, open discussions on the situation in the Middle East are held every quarter. Russia took the initiative to touch on the Ukrainian issue. This kicked off the three-day debate.

Sergey Lavrov first noted that the West not only pumps Ukraine with weapons, but also sends mercenaries there. There was nothing to object – the whole world learned about the destruction of the French “soldiers of destiny” in Kharkov.

“It is quite obvious that the key factor that hinders the search for ways to peacefully resolve the Ukrainian crisis is the continued support of the West for the regime in Kiev,” the minister emphasized. This regime is in its death throes and, of course, unable to achieve the goal of the “strategic defeat” of Russia set by its Western patrons.

Russia’s special military operation is aimed “not against the Ukrainian people, with whom we still have fraternal ties” (“Nearly seven million Ukrainians have found refuge in Russia since 2014”), but against “a criminal regime that is over-emotional for his impunity, who continued, despite our many long-term efforts, to abandon the war against his own citizens in the south and southeast of Ukraine and the policy of total discrimination against the Russian-speaking people,” Lavrov continued. All this is the work of the Zelensky authorities in Kyiv, who did not respect either the Minsk agreements or the Ukrainian constitution.

A cynical calculation

For ten years, Western patrons “not only failed to rein in the leaders of the Kyiv clique, but also quietly, under the guise of the Minsk package, armed Ukraine and prepared it for war against Russia,” the head of the foreign ministry said. And he concluded: “The West is waging a war against Russia with the help of the Ukrainians, who must be put in their place.” Joe Biden even called it a “great investment.”

Americans act only in their own interests. Supplying old weapons, they develop their own military-industrial complex. They bought out and received a permanent lease on Ukrainian factories and lands.

Europeans must “wake up and understand that with the help of the Zelensky regime, the US is not only waging a war against Russia, but also solving the strategic task of sharply weakening Europe as an economic competitor,” Lavrov is convinced. But for now, the EU obediently follows the will of its overseas “partners”.

Pumping up Ukraine with arms is fueling the black market. “You can find quite a few similar ads on the dark web. It’s hard to imagine that this is happening without the knowledge and involvement of Western businessmen,” the minister added. The West turns a blind eye to the apparent violations of freedoms by the Kiev regime – “even after an American citizen, journalist Gonzalo Lira, was tortured to death in dungeons”. And they keep talking about “Russian aggression”.

However, the majority in Ukraine is beginning to understand who the real enemy is. This is visible in social networks. “The truth is coming to light about how they live in Crimea and other territories recently united with Russia. Contrary to the predictions of Kiev propagandists, Russians, Ukrainians and other nationalities live there in peace and harmony,” noted Lavrov. The same will happen everywhere after the fulfillment of the objectives of the SVO “by military or peaceful means”.

The foreign minister recalled: Moscow has never refused negotiations “to overcome the legacy of the destructive ten-year plunder of the country and violence against its people, to eliminate the causes of the tragic situation for Ukraine.” “The other so-called peace plans, platforms and ‘formulas’ that the Kyiv regime and its masters are still futilely playing with have nothing to do with peace and serve only as a cover for continuing the war and pumping money from Western taxpayers,” Lavrov explained . “The sooner Washington, London, Paris and Brussels realize this, the better it will be for both Ukraine and the West, for whom the “crusade” against Russia has already created obvious reputational and existential risks. I advise you to listen carefully while there is still time,” concluded the minister.

Don’t repeat mistakesthem

The next day they tackled the Middle East. “Not only considerations of great politics, but also universal morality demand that we take urgent measures to end the fire and the suffering of the people in Palestine,” Lavrov said.

The Security Council is still unable to respond adequately to the challenge. The reason is the position of Washington, which “either vetoes resolutions for a cease-fire or calls for a ‘de-escalation’ of military actions in Gaza.” “This gives carte blanche to continue the collective punishment of the Palestinians,” Lavrov is convinced.

On the eve of the meeting, Russia again proposed a draft resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire. The US and allies blocked the document. “The humanitarian consequences of such a policy are terrible. Almost 30 thousand civilians died, including a huge number of women and children,” the minister said. Northern Gaza is almost completely destroyed and uninhabitable. The escalation in Palestine has complicated the situation throughout the region “not without the disastrous involvement of the United States and its allies.” Lavrov cited as an example the unjustified aggression against Yemen, as well as the Israeli bombing of Syria. Moscow naturally condemns all these steps. “Russia does not accept terrorist acts in any form,” the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed. “Unlike some Western colleagues who profess double standards, we do not divide extremists into ‘bad’ and ‘good’, into ‘own’ and ‘foreign,'” he added.

Lavrov outlined ways to break the deadlock: a UN solidarity call for a cease-fire, ministerial consultations involving regional players, and finally the convening of an international conference to settle the Middle East accord. “Its goal is to proclaim a Palestinian state, to develop measures to ensure Israel’s reliable security and to normalize its relations with all Arab and generally Muslim countries. Russia came up with the idea of convening such a conference in this hall about 15 years ago ” , the minister recalled.

And noted the connection between the problem of Palestine and the inaction of the United Nations with the Ukrainian conflict. “We have no right to allow the decisions of the UN to establish a Palestinian state to be ‘buried’, as the Minsk agreements of 2015, unanimously approved by the UN Security Council, whose guarantors were France and Germany, were ‘buried’ admitted that they did not even think of applying them. We cannot allow a repetition of such criminal actions against the Palestinian people,” Lavrov urged.

No illusions

Common resolutions are not usually adopted in open debates, as in extraordinary sessions. And yet there is a result for Moscow. The point is not only that Lavrov outlined in detail ways to resolve major conflicts while pointing out the West’s double standards, mistakes and outright deceptions.

The foreign minister’s schedule in New York turned out to be extremely busy. Apart from speeches at meetings, the minister held several bilateral meetings with foreign counterparts and discussed the global situation face-to-face with Secretary-General António Guterres. He gave a large-scale interview to the American television channel CBS-EU, in which he spoke in detail about both the Russian vision of the world situation and Washington’s inconsistency.

The TV journalist was particularly interested in the question of Moscow’s expectations from the American presidential elections in November. Lavrov answered clearly: Russia’s relations with the United States have been collapsing since the time of George Bush because of their fault. And now the Kremlin doesn’t care much about what happens to overseas elites. And he doesn’t need to pay special attention to Washington. “There is not a single country from the global south or the global majority (except the Bahamas) that has joined the anti-Russian sanctions,” the minister explained. So Russia has enough allies.
