‘The Crown’ actor Emma Corrin debuted the embroidered glitter panties on the Miu Miu catwalk during the previous Paris Fashion Week. But the general public is shocked. And not just because of the ridiculously high price tag. “What occasion are you doing this to, the restaurant?”
From New York to Paris, on the catwalks of countless fashion houses and among the biggest celebs: the ‘no pants’ look is the latest craze. In short, trousers in 2023 will be completely passé. This is also believed by the luxury fashion brand Miu Miu, whose sequined underpants are now turning heads. Albeit not for the right reasons.
The most expensive underwear ever?
The Italian Miu Miu, a sort of younger and more playful sister of the Prada brand, has experienced a renaissance in recent years thanks to the young people of generation Z. Thanks to their daring designs, the brand has won the hearts of many fashionistas.
But the showpiece of their autumn and winter collection for this fall? A pair of glittery underpants with a price tag of around 5,600 dollars, or 3,900 euros. A lot more than an average monthly wage and perhaps also the most expensive underpants ever designed. And that’s not all.

The sequin-embroidered underpants made of silk and wool come in the colors opal pink, fern green and sand beige. The bottoms first saw the light of day at the Miu Miu fashion show during the fashion weeks in Paris earlier this year. Actor Emma Corrin wore the sandy beige version with black translucent tights and a turtleneck. The pants are now for sale to the general public.
The briefs are popular with the big stars. Reality star Kendall Jenner and actress Margaret Qualley, daughter of actress Andie MacDowell, wore the bottoms when they recently posed for the cover of the American magazine Harper’s Bazaar.

“If it doesn’t itch, then it’s not high fashion”
It is certainly daring, especially considering the price tag. But is it also practical for the everyday fashion lover? No matter how ‘high fashion’ the underwear may be, people on the internet are anything but gentle with the garment.
Because such panties with sequins can’t help but be itchy and uncomfortable, right? And who wants to pay 3,900 euros for that? The Instagram page @diet_prada asks their followers these questions. The account with 3.4 million followers is known for criticizing the fashion industry and celebrities.
I feel sorry for the model who had to wear this
A person in the Instagram comments
Countless people gave their unvarnished opinions about Miu Miu’s underpants in the comments below the post. “Tell me the designers are men, without saying they are men,” is what they say. “Has anyone ordered a vaginal yeast infection for this fall?”, another responds. “Hi, most expensive fungal infection ever,” someone adds.
“This is clearly designed for people with a thigh gap (if your thighs are so slim that they do not touch each other, ed.),” you read. “For what occasion should you wear these underpants? The red carpet, the beach or at the restaurant?”

“I feel sorry for the model who had to wear this,” said another. “If it doesn’t itch, then it’s not high fashion,” they say. “The fact that there is also a zipper makes it worse,” one person wrote. “You pay 3,900 euros and the waist couldn’t even be stretchy at the very least? So not only will the sequins rip open your thighs, but there will also be a zipper in your back.”
