Bonams is offering clothes and accessories used in the famous series “The Crown,” shown on Netflix, at an upcoming auction in the British capital and online next February.
Among the 450 items intended to be sold is a copy of Princess Diana’s green Jaguar car, and a gate from Buckingham Palace that was used in the series, whose final season Netflix made available.
The British house Bonams will display these pieces for free to the public in its showrooms in New York, Los Angeles, Paris and London, before selling them at an upcoming auction in the British capital. A number of pieces will be available for sale online between January 30 and February 8.
Charlie Thomas, one of the directors of the Bonams group in the United Kingdom, expressed his admiration for the “level of precision” in the accessories and dresses, and the exceptional decor details, such as a copy of the facade of the Prime Minister’s residence, which makes viewers feel as if the scenes were filmed in the real place.
He said in an interview with Agence France-Presse: It will be amazing to know who will bid on life-sized pieces of decor.
While pieces with great symbolic significance are expected to achieve high prices that may reach 50,000 pounds sterling (about 62,000 dollars), such as the carriage in which the king travels during his coronation celebration, other pieces will be offered at acceptable initial prices, such as a piece of porcelain representing two “dogs.” Corgi, which was so beloved by the late Queen Elizabeth II, will be sold for around 200 pounds (about $250).
Charlie Thomas confirmed that the series was well received by millions of people, adding: “Everyone will have the opportunity to buy a piece of television history.”
The proceeds from the in-person auction will go to the students of the National Film and Television School, in cooperation with the British production company Left Bank Pictures, which produced “The Crown.”
Since a number of episodes of the final season of “The Crown” were made available on Netflix, about 11.1 million people have watched them. The series has won many awards, but it is criticized for being far from actual historical reality.
