– The Crown Prince’s family would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas! This year has been a slightly different Christmas Eve and the Crown Prince’s family are grateful for all the consideration they received while the King was in hospital, and are very happy that he is now home.

The crown prince’s family wrote it on Instagram on Friday afternoon.

King Harald (85) was admitted to the Rikshospitalet on Monday this week with an infection. Here he was treated with intravenous antibiotics.

Wednesday afternoon the king was dismissed and picked up by the Palace limousine.

– The king is on the road to recovery, but he will take it easy for a few days, reads the message from the Palace.

It is not yet clear what will happen with the King’s New Year’s speech this year.

The decision on who will deliver the speech will be made closer to New Year’s, the royal house said earlier. On a daily basis, it is Crown Prince Haakon who steps in for the king in case of illness.

The royal family’s traditional Christmas photo shoot has been cancelled.

It also became clear on Thursday that King Harald will retire as a competitive sailor after a long career with multiple World Championships medals. He also attended this year’s WC in Switzerland.

This is how the royals will celebrate Christmas

King Harald and Queen Sonja celebrate Christmas in Kongsseteren in Holmenkollen. The Crown Prince’s family also spends Christmas Eve and part of the Christmas days here.

Additionally, the royal family will attend the service in Holmenkollen Chapel on Christmas Day.

The Royal Palace shared videos of Christmas decorations at Skaugum and the Castle on Instagram last week. On the balcony of the castle is a six-metre high Christmas tree decorated with over a hundred lights.

It is unknown where Princess Märtha Louise and family will celebrate Christmas this year.

Last year, the King and Queen spent Christmas at the royal estate of Bygdøy, while Christmas Eve was celebrated with the Crown Prince’s family in Skaugum.
