That day, students from the fashion and textiles course organized their annual charity fashion show. Kate Middleton, then an art history student, volunteered to model. In a completely transparent dress with her underwear visible, she paraded across the stage of her university.
That would have been the moment that Prince William lost his heart to his future wife. “Wow, that’s sexy,” he reportedly said to one of his friends on the show, as reported by Katie Nicholl in her book ‘The Making of a Royal Romance’. Some rumors even claim that Kate and William shared their first real kiss the night after the fashion show. Sandwich monkey story or real anecdote, what is certain is that their love story was indeed born that evening.
As soon as the couple became official a few months later, the dress in question started making the rounds in the British media. Photos of Kate Middleton in this daring outfit, curly hair and exposed navel were widely published. The original dress was eventually sold at auction for 78,000 pounds (87,989 euros). There are rumors that Prince William is the mysterious buyer.

The final six episodes of ‘The Crown’ on Netflix tell the royal couple’s love story. Actors Meg Bellamy and Ed McVey play the characters of William and Kate in the series. Viewers will also relive Charles III and Camilla’s 2005 wedding. Dominic West still plays Prince Charles, and Olivia Williams, his wife. The role of Queen Elizabeth II is played by actress Imelda Staunton. The final episodes of the British series will be available on Netflix from December 14.
