tvAfter sixty episodes spread over six seasons, the popular Netflix series ‘The Crown’ has come to an end. High time for an overview with a good dose of nostalgia, the streaming service thinks. Netflix looks back on the six seasons with a series of impressive figures and surprising facts.
It is now more than clear that the series has a large cast, but Netflix is now revealing the real figures. 45,816 extras were used for ‘The Crown’, and each season features more than 200 leading actors. In addition, the series employed a total of 2,584 crew members.
Over the course of the story, 719 filming locations were used, making for more than 110 locations per season. ‘The Crown’ was filmed in seven different countries including England, Wales, Scotland, France, Spain, Hungary and South Africa. The most recurring location was Wilton House, used to represent the ballroom and formal dining room of Buckingham Palace.
Seven other locations were used to depict the grandeur of the palace. For example, scenes in the Queen’s office were shot at Lancaster House and the family’s private quarters were actually just a set at Elstree Studios.

Of all the costumes seen in the series, the most time was spent on Princess Diana’s (Emma Corrin) wedding dress. Over four months, the crew worked no less than 600 hours on the dress. In addition, the garment had to be tried on five times.
Another dress that cost blood, sweat and tears is the Queen’s wedding dress. The bodice was embroidered by one person, which took no less than three weeks. While six people worked on the train, which amounted to almost seven weeks of embroidery.
But not everything went smoothly. Princess Margaret’s wedding dress was made without a single fitting. And it immediately fit actress Vanessa Kirby like a glove.
