The crown has been specially removed from display at the Tower of London so it can be fitted to Camilla ahead of the ceremony in May. Charles became the new king of Great Britain after the death of Elizabeth II.
The crown jeweler will make some changes and additions, following the tradition of setting jewels in a unique way, especially for the occasion and reflecting the individual style of the wearer.
These changes will honor Queen Elizabeth II by incorporating the ‘Cullinan’ III, IV and V diamonds, which were often worn by the previous monarch, into the crown.
In addition to the diamonds, four of the crown’s eight bows will be removed, giving the headdress a different silhouette than when it was introduced in 1911, when it was worn by Queen Mary at her coronation.
