PRAGUE The crowds did not wait for the opening of Prague’s shopping centers on Thursday morning. The people who came after the start of the operation went mainly to beauty salons, for Christmas decorations or to cafes. Although the children’s corners must remain closed in the shopping centers, parents with small children were among the first to arrive at the selected centers.

In the Butovice Gallery in Prague, the operation started very calmly, there were almost no customers in the shops. Salespeople, who were obviously looking forward to working again, looked at them in front of the shops with a smile.

There was more movement in the nearby Metropole Zličín. In front of the center, people were picking Christmas trees or mistletoe. Inside the center, manicurists, hairdressers and barbers were busy. More customers were in the store with home and decorative items. At the entrances to all stores hangs information on how many people can shop in it at once. The government has set a limit of one customer per 15 square meters. Smaller stores usually fit around ten people, larger ones can accommodate up to about a hundred customers.

Busy IKEA

The hour after the opening at the IKEA department store in Zličín was much more busy, when, according to information on the company’s website, there were around 800 customers. IKEA has limited the capacity of its branches, specifically in Zličín it can buy a maximum of 1,050 people at a time. The furniture chain encouraged customers to come mainly for targeted purchases, preferably without children. As well as shopping malls, many parents came to the branches. The Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček (for YES) also intends to check the situation in this department store today, and he will go to several Prague stores.

Queues in Ikee Zličín.

On Sofijské náměstí in Prague’s Modřany, a line of about 20 people stood in front of the Pepco network store, which offers clothing and household products, before 10:00. “I’m going to look at some winter clothes for my little son, they are often cheap here,” said waiting customer Jitka. No queues formed at other shops closed in the square so far.

All stores could reopen on Thursday after a forced six-week break. In stores, there is a limit on the number of customers per area, dining areas in shopping centers can only work for serving snacks. In shops, the obligation to wear veils, observing two-meter spacings applies, and hand disinfection is required at the entrances.

In addition to shops, services, hotels for recreational purposes, and, to a limited extent, restaurants have also been able to resume operations today. Opened with fitness centers, swimming pools, spas and saunas.
