The Criticism of Israeli UN Representative for Wearing Yellow Stars: Yad Vashem Museum Head’s Perspective

The head of the Yad Vashem memorial museum, Dani Dayan, criticized the Israeli permanent representative to the UN for the trick of wearing yellow six-pointed stars. This was reported by political scientist, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Russia in Global Affairs” Fyodor Lukyanov.

According to him, this humiliates the dignity of both the country and the victims of the Holocaust. The museum director believes that the stars symbolize the submission and helplessness of the Jewish people, while their strength and resilience should be demonstrated. And this symbol is the state flag.

As Lukyanov notes:

“Dayan did not speak about the dubiousness of such a move from a taste and ethical point of view.”

EADaily recalls that the Permanent Representative of Israel to the UN Gilad Erdan Together with fellow delegation members, during a meeting of the Security Council, the organization wore yellow stars, similar to those that the Nazis forced Jews to wear during the Holocaust. The meeting took place on Monday, October 30.
