TURIN – It is well known that the Italian courts are clogged and that the times of justice are abnormal to worry even the European Union. And the Court of Turin is no exception (indeed…). Yet there is always room to carry on the most sensational cases in the media. This is the essence of the press release of the Board of Directors of the Criminal Chamber of Turin with which the Court of Turin is invited to withdraw two decrees containing criteria for the priorities for the preliminary hearings and for the assignment of the trials to the investigating judges.
The decrees in question created an additional preferential lane for cases involving companies listed on the Stock Exchange. A coincidence that irritated the Turin lawyers who, in their press release, explicitly refer to Juventus, arguing that the Court introduced that lane «at the mere solicitation of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and, clearly, due to the pending of a well-known criminal proceeding which had and still has a significant media outcry», reiterating that «the eventual expectations of public opinion cannot dictate the agenda of the Court of Turin».
