The crew of the ship “Rouen” is now free. All sailors are in good health. Efforts are currently being made for their return to Bulgaria. They were more than three months in captivity.
“With the help of the Indian Navy, the crew of the Ruen ship hijacked on December 14, 2023, including seven Bulgarian citizens, was released.
The seven Bulgarian sailors were also released. They are all in good health.
They are on board the Indian warship,” Captain Alexander Kalchev, executive director of the BMF, said on NOVA.
The release operation was carried out by the Indian Navy, which intercepted the hijacked cargo ship and asked the Somali pirates on board to surrender. The operation lasted more than 40 hours 2600 km from the coast of India.
The operation was completed successfully. 35 pirates were arrested. They are aboard one of the two ships that were in the area.
“The sailors are to take the ship to a safe port for an investigation by the authorities.” I assume that in 10-15 days they will come home”, added Capt. Kalchev.
