The creation of an airline company, Burgas Air, which will operate at the Burgas airport all year round, is under consideration.
This became clear after the working meeting on the development of Burgas Airport, which was held by the Regional Administration.
“We were presented with an exotic idea for the creation of a company positioned in Burgas, with the participation of the municipalities as the main shareholders, which would serve mainly and only flights to and from our city all year round. Figuratively speaking, this is to create an airline company Burga Air. Those presenting the idea believe that this is possible, and that by the end of April there will be more specifics”said regional governor Plamen Yanev.
Momchil Kamburov, the founder of the airline company Burgasair, told the media that a business plan has yet to be drawn up, and more details may be available at the end of April.
„If financing is found, an aircraft can be purchased, but it can also be leased. We expect an initiative from the municipalities to participate as shareholders“, he also said.
Regional Governor Plamen Yanev added that there will be questions to the Ministry of Transport regarding Fraport’s concession.
The first is whether all the annexations and concession contracts are available to the public, because there has been speculation on the subject for years.
The second is to offer options for negotiating and renegotiating the concession contract, as well as making commitments for development.
„If the airport is such a big burden for Fraport and it can’t develop it, it should come to a review of the concession until a concessionaire can be found who can develop it“, he said.
It was also discussed that the flight incentive fund should also be reviewed.
„A strong initiative by the regions of Burgas, Sliven and Stara Zagora is needed. This fund should be managed by the municipalities and they should participate in the negotiations, and not give the powers only to the concessionaire. This is a worldwide experienceYanev explained.
