In France, Loire-Atlantique is still the most affected department, currently, by the Covid, followed by Vendée, another coastal department. In 44, the incidence rate, i.e. the number of positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants, amounts to 1,734. And in 85, to 1,545. While it is respectively 1,428 in Maine-et-Loire, 1,241 in Sarthe and 977 in Mayenne. For the whole of Pays de la Loire, it is displayed at 1,503. And the positivity rate is 44.6%, that is to say that almost one in two people who are tested are positive.
At the same time, hospitalizations have increased “by 55% in two weeks with 538 people hospitalized, 80% of whom are over 65”, according to the ARS. But important clarification, of these 538 people, 278 are because of the Covid. The others were tested positive for Covid when they came to a health establishment for another pathology. And of these 278 patients hospitalized for Covid, 19 are in intensive care or intensive care (including seven in Loire-Atlantique).
Soon the end of the 7e vague ?
Good news, the progression of the pandemic in the region is slowing down. The peak seems close. But, the BA5 wave (a variant of omicron) could, in the near future, be replaced by another one. The even more contagious BA275 from India is arriving in some European countries. Not yet in France.
These variants have less severe forms than the first coronaviruses. But they can affect the most fragile. The ARS therefore calls for the greatest vigilance. She strongly encourages those over 60 to do a second booster shot. “It greatly reduces the risk of the onset of serious forms and hospitalization. » Currently, in Pays de la Loire, 40.18% of people over 80 have had a fourth dose and only 21.4% of people aged 60-79.
On the other hand, 85% of the population over the age of 18 have had three injections against Covid.
