The Covid effect benefits the North

To celebrate the end of this year 2020, many Caledonians have decided to wake up in the bush. The closing of the borders had the effect of re-boosting a tourism sector in bad shape in the North province.

For the holidays, this year many Caledonians choose the calm of the North. “We travel abroad a lot, but it’s rare that we discover Caledonia. It is true that with the closing of the borders, the opportunity presented itself ”, says Gérard Tangopi, tourist in the North for a few days.

One meal for 100 people

This influx of visitors to the North benefits hotels, especially in Malabou. In the kitchen we prepare the meal for the expected 100 people. On the menu: shellfish, fresh fish and fine sweet potato tart … “It’s nice to see the world coming”, slips Henry Jewine, happy chef.

A captive clientele

Le Malabou recorded a 15% increase in its reservations in January. “Undeniably, the clientele is captive in Caledonia, so vacation destinations are favored for hotels around the coast. We take advantage of it. Now once the air links are restored to normal, I don’t know if it will last. I hope”, says Robert Hazet, Managing Director.
