The Covid certificate is of no interest to employers

From tomorrow, if necessary, employers can request a Covid certificate from their employees: a survey by SonntagsBlick shows, however, that large companies and public administrations have little interest in doing so.

The Migros group, which employs around 90,000 people throughout Switzerland, is clear: “We don’t see the need and we won’t ask for the pass,” a spokesperson said on Sunday The company relies on the existing protection plan , which has proven itself well.

Similar positions in other groups. “Proof of vaccination is not required,” says Credit Suisse. Competitor UBS writes: “In our offices for the moment we will not introduce mandatory certification”. Swisscom declares that the certificate is not mandatory for employees, nor are any changes currently planned.

Many other companies have not yet investigated the matter: SBB, Swiss Post, Coop, Nestlé, Novartis and Roche cannot yet say whether they will make any adjustments. The same picture is offered by public employers: densely populated cantons such as Aargau, Bern, St. Gallen and Zurich state that they have not yet examined the issue.

Particularly surprising, according to the SonntagsBlick, is the fact that even for federal officials, the dossier is currently not considered current. “The federal administration will use the possibility of verifying the certificates of its employees only in very specific situations”, a spokesman for the Federal Personnel Office (FOPER) indicates on Sunday. The rationale: on the one hand, the administrative units already have well-functioning protection plans, on the other hand the bar of controls is raised for a public employer. “To process sensitive employee data, the federal administration must be able to rely on a formal legal basis: the Covid ordinance is not enough”, explains the press officer.
