Two new people are now considered recovered from COVID-19, bringing the number of people still officially contagious in the region to 12. This number has been the same for two days.
For reasons of confidentiality, the Regional Directorate of Public Health no longer disseminates the number of active carriers by MRC, but Monday the MRC d’Avignon had less than five. It was the only one MRC of the region with that of Haute-Gaspésie where public health counted cases that were still officially contagious.

Outbreak in Haute-Gaspésie
For the past few days, Haute-Gaspésie has been grappling with an outbreak of COVID-19 cases. Three classes from Gabriel-Le Courtois high school and the Haute-Gaspésie vocational training center were placed in isolation. This outbreak also affected two bus routes. In total, nearly 220 people are in preventive containment following this outbreak.
About ten students and one staff member were diagnosed positive.
According to the Director of Public Health of the Gaspé and the Islands, Doctor Yv Bonnier-Viger, the virus circulating is the British variant, associated with higher contagiousness. The situation is serious, according to the doctor, but on the verge of being brought under control.

The number of people who have received two doses of the vaccine continues to increase in the region. Today, 76% of Gaspésiens and Madelinots combined received a first dose, and 16%, a second.

Decrease in the number of cases in Quebec
In Bas-Saint-Laurent, the Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS) reports four new virus infections. These are people who live in the Basques, Rivière-du-Loup and Kamouraska RCMs. Five people are hospitalized in Rimouski, including three in intensive care.
In Quebec, contagion remains on the decline. The Quebec Ministry of Health identified 150 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, their lowest level since last summer. Quebec also reports 4 more deaths, including one in Bas-Saint-Laurent.
