Banda Aceh (ANTARA) – A total of 19,835 youths from groups in Aceh Province have been vaccinated against COVID-19, as an effort to accelerate the creation of herd immunity to protect against the deadly virus.
“Adolescents are targeted for COVID-19 vaccination according to the national vaccination technical guidelines, age group 12-17 years,” said Aceh COVID-19 Spokesperson Saifullah Abdulgani in Banda Aceh, Sunday.
He explained that the COVID-19 vaccination for youth groups in Aceh will only start in July 2021. Up to now, of the 19,835 teenagers who have been vaccinated with the first dose, 12,840 of them have completed the second dose.
“The target for COVID-19 vaccination for youth groups in Aceh is 577,017 people,” said the spokesman, who is familiarly called SAG.
He explained that vaccination for teenagers is expected to increase sharply in the coming days, and it is targeted that vaccination for school groups in Aceh will be completed by September 31, 2021.
SAG asks every parent to be proactive and immediately take their children to the vaccination centers closest to their place of residence. COVID-19 vaccination for school age and students should continue to be encouraged to prepare for face-to-face learning at schools and campuses.
“If we look at the trend of COVID-19 in Aceh and nationally which tends to decrease, there is a possibility that face-to-face learning will be opened and all teenagers in Aceh have been protected with a second dose of vaccination,” he said.
In addition, SAG stated that the coverage of the first dose of vaccination for health workers in Aceh had reached 60,458 people, or 107 percent of the initial target of around 56,470 people.
“Meanwhile, 53,155 health workers have been vaccinated with the second dose. Meanwhile, 14,205 health workers have been vaccinated using the Moderna vaccine,” he said.
The first dose of vaccination for the elderly group has reached 25,503 people from the target of 339,125 people. Meanwhile, there were 13,049 elderly people who had finished injecting the second dose.
Furthermore, public service officers who have vaccinated the first dose were 295,841 people, from the target of 478,489 people. And those who have completed the second dose of vaccination are 159,563 people.
For the general public and other vulnerable groups, said SAG, the group’s vaccination target is 2.5 million people. Among them 469,714 people had received the first dose of vaccination, and 233,154 of them had received the second dose.
“In general, the progress of the first dose of vaccination has reached 871,351 people from the target of 4 million people in Aceh. Those who have injected the second dose are 471,761 people. We urge everyone to be vaccinated at the first opportunity, so that Aceh can reach herd immunity faster,” he said.
