The Covid-19 sweeps the card

It has pulverized the cinematographic billboard of half the world, blocking the way to such popular and charismatic characters as James Bond and the legendary Chinese heroine Mulan, leaving in the gutter an entire Oscar winner as Tom Hanks, subtracting notable doses of dynamism from the X Men and to the nice ones Trolls and turning off the class and size of a character like Emma created by the writer Jane Austen. A whole flurry of illustrious names linked to cinema that have seen helpless not only how they have been displaced from screens around the world but have gone through the humiliation of being forced to close their doors by an enemy of microscopic size, the fearsome e insatiable predator coronavirus, also leaving behind a desolate landscape of empty seats, sepulchral silences and permanent darkness

Certainly what has caused this bug, the COVID-19, is unprecedented, to the point that it has caused – for the time being, because there is no precise date for reopening – a general closure. It would be necessary to go back to the times of the dictatorship, specifically to the days of Holy Week, in which the cinemas closed, with the only exception of those who projected few religious titles that did have the approval, to find something alone relatively similar. But without ever losing sight of the fact that in this case the initiative has been of the exhibitors and within the framework of a statement of the state of alarm aimed at solving a crisis of unsuspected consequences.

The truth is that this closure of the rooms has completely fulminated the Alicante billboard, and that of the rest of Spain, giving rise to numerous changes in it that affect some of the most awaited releases by the public. Because while it is true that several of them will not be long in coming, others instead have now been postponed for several months. It is, among others, the case of “No time to die” by Cary Jojo Fukuwawa, which is the new James Bond adventure, the last one by the way in which the actor Daniel Craig incorporates agent 007 and in which he is accompanied by the beautiful Cuban actress Ana de Armas. Planned for June, it has now been delayed until September, as a result of the film’s new global strategy.

Another similar case, although we will see it still in the summer, is that of “Mulan”, a biopic of a heroic and courageous young Chinese woman with real characters, which was already brought to the big screen in 1998 by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook in format of animation. The new version is signed by a woman, New Zealander Niki Caro, and fits squarely into epic cinema.

Another product with the ability to convene among the little ones is “Trolls 2”, which was to be released on March 18 and which is the sequel to the film we saw in 2016, now entirely subordinated to pop music.

In the field of comedy, “An extraordinary friend” stands out, which is a cause of brilliance for Tom Hanks, who is waiting for a new date after two months of waiting. As far as action movies are concerned, “The New Mutants” is an offer that has a hook for addicts to the X-Men series. While “Fast and furious 9”, which this crisis only comes close to, returns to the tracks with the direction of Justin Lin and Vin Diesel once again the front of the cast, pretending to take another step in his obsession for overcoming the impossible. And in more sensitive areas “Emma” is the umpteenth adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel with the emerging actress Anya Taylor Joy, while “The Black Widow” is a thriller by Cate Shortland with Scarlett Johansson as the protagonist

As regards our cinema, we must cite a comedy with illustrious matures, “Get out of the closet“which brings us to Veronica Forqué and Rosa Sardá, and the end of the Baztan trilogy, “Offering to the storm”, a feature film not to be marginalized by Fernando Gómez Molina. Finally, the comedy “Operation Shrimp“, by Carlos Theon, has chosen to rest in summer, so that it will not be available until the heat of summer has been overcome. It is one of the bets at the box office of cinema made in Spain.
