Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Covid-19 pandemic is not over yet. However, France had to get a new problem, namely the threat of bird flu spreading massively in Europe.
The French government has also put in place preparedness for the threat. This was conveyed by the French Ministry of Agriculture as quoted by Channel News Asia, Friday (11/5/2021).
The French move will expand the requirements for keeping birds indoors. The same policy had previously been implemented in a number of areas since last September.
In addition to finding cases of bird flu in Europe, the Ministry of Agriculture also identified three cases in northeastern France.
“Since early August, 30 cases or clusters of bird flu have been detected in wild or farmed animals in Europe,” the ministry said.
“Therefore the precautionary measures are strengthened to implement safeguards on poultry farms.”
The ministry also added that the requirement to keep poultry indoors would be adjusted. By taking into account livestock production practices.
France alone culled three million birds last winter on duck farms in the southwest. By then the country had been struggling with the spread of the virus from wild birds to poultry on farms.
Similar policies are also carried out by other countries in Europe. Last week the Dutch authorities asked commercial farms to keep their poultry indoors after reports of bird flu cases were reported.
