KOMPAS.com – The World Health Organization-ordered independent expert panel on pandemic preparedness and response (IPPPR) (WHO) review, disaster pandemic Covid-19 could have been prevented.
However, the Covid-19 pandemic, which has lasted almost 1.5 years, has shown a failure at the national and international levels.
The IPPPR study found various problems in handling Covid-19. From a slow initial response to low preparedness.
“The corona virus shows a world that is vulnerable to the adverse effects of a pandemic, despite warnings from experts regarding the global health threat when we face the SARS, Ebola, to Zika (outbreaks),” said IPPPR. NPR, Wednesday (12/5/2021).

“Covid-19 is actually a preventable disaster,” said the panel at the release of its report.
The lack of improvement in the world from last year shows that the current systems in place are clearly unsuitable for preventing new, highly contagious diseases and pathogens that can emerge at any time and develop into pandemics.
They considered that the problem related to global response to dealing with the pandemic had started since the beginning.
According to the IPPPR, WHO has taken too long to declare a public emergency of international concern. The reason is, a number of initial case reports have existed since December 2019.
The national government is also a waste of time, the report said. IPPPR calls February 2020 a lost month.
Because they considered, at that time countries should have been able to act quickly to prevent the spread of the corona virus and prevent the worst effects of the pandemic.
