The Covid-19 emergency is coming to an end, Omicron is spreading fast – WHO

Geneva: Covid rates are still rising in many countries around the world, including China and Britain. Now the World Health Organization clarifies that the Covid emergency phase is almost over. But Omicron’s spread is still too rapid, says the World Health Organization.

We are approaching the point where we can say that the pandemic emergency is over. But it’s not there yet. The reason for this is Omicron’s ability to spread,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of the World Health Organization.

Omicron has been shown to be more invasive than the delta-like variants that have spread in the past. Due to this, the mortality rate has also increased. The World Health Organization says a lack of thorough surveillance and fewer tests and vaccinations are creating the conditions for new variants.

Data from the World Health Organization show that there is a decrease in the mortality rate recorded in the last five weeks. But the death toll recorded just last week is 8,500. Tedros Athano Ghebreyesus said it is not acceptable that the rate does not decrease even if more than three years after the arrival of Covid, death can be prevented by many means.

According to the conclusion of the World Health Organization, 90% of the world’s population is believed to have received immunity from vaccination or a previous covid infection.
