The court restored the right to drive to A. Kandrots, reduced the fine because of car number plates – What is happening in Kaunas

Last week, the Kaunas District Court returned the right to driveto Antanas Kandrotas, nicknamed Cellophane, who was imprisoned for financial crimes and slightly reduced the fine due to alleged diplomatic scales Order of Malta marking his car.

“(The court – BNS) was partially satisfied with the complaint, changed the amount of the fine from 260 to 240 euros and suspended the suspension of the right to drive for six months,” said Erikas Rugienius, the lawyer who represented A. Kandrots in this case, said BNS.

Kaunas County Police imposed an administrative fine on A. Kandrots two years ago for driving a Jaguar carwith license plates that were not officially assigned to him.

The convicted person requested that the case be returned to the police station for retrial. A. Kandrotas has said that the diplomatic numbers were given to him by the order of the Orthodox Knights of Malta.

The Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Lithuania said in July that A. Kandrotas “is not and was not a member of the Order and no embassy in Lithuania or any other country had issued him any document.

According to the embassy, sometimes some organizations or groups working in different countries use names similar to the Order of Malta and the symbol of the Order of Malta, the white octagonal cross of the Order of Malta, in their names.

E. Rugienius said that he had not received any information that confirmed or denied the validity of these numbers in Lithuania.

“He (A. Kandrot – BNS) was given legal numbers in Ukraine,” he said.

According to the lawyer, the decision can still be appealed to the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court, but his client most likely will not, because “it would be irresponsible to complain about hundred euros.”

However, it is not clear what the chances are for A. Kandrots to drive again in the near future, as he is serving a prison sentence in Vilnius prison for financial crimes. After combining the sentences in two cases at the beginning of the year, the man was sentenced to two years and ten months in prison.

A. Kandrotas is also accused in the case of the riots near the Seimas, suspected of inciting hatred against MP Tomas Vytautas Raskevičius. For his part, Celofanas has sued TV Raskevičius to claim 100 euros for kissing a member of the Seimas.
