At the end of last year, the National Security Department of the police arrested high-level or former high-level personnel of “Stand News” on charges of conspiracy to publish seditious publications, and charged its director Zhong Peiquan, former interim-chief director Lin Shaotong and his management company with conspiracy to publish seditious publications. They pleaded not guilty to stand trial and asked the court to permanently stop the hearing. The court has so far made a decision in the district court (22) and rejected the defense’s application and allowed the prosecution to continue the ‘accuse. Detailed reasons will be announced in the future set out in the ruling of this case.
The three defendants in this case are the company Best Pencil (Hong Kong) Limited, Zhong Peiquan (52 years old, unemployed) and Lin Shaotong (34 years old, publisher), accused of conspiracy to publish seditious publications. The indictment alleges that the three defendants conspired together and conspired with others to publish and/or reproduce seditious literature in Hong Kong between July 7, 2020 and December 29, 2021.
