The Court of Cassation, which did not accept Can Atalay’s request for release, also rejected the objection to the decision.

The Court of Cassation, rejecting the request for the stay of the trial against Can Atalay, the Deputy of the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TIP), also rejected the objection to the decision.

The 4th Penal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals found the decision of the 3rd Penal Chamber of the Court of Cassation, which rejected the application for the stay of the trial against Can Atalay, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison by the local court in the Gezi trial, to be stopped due to his election as a member of parliament, and for his release.

Deniz Özen, Can Atalay’s lawyer, told BBC Turkish, “From now on, an individual application will be made to the Constitutional Court. A decision of violation will be awaited from the Constitutional Court,” he said.

One member voted against the decision taken by a majority of votes.
