The Court of Cassation confirms the 15-year prison sentence of Jamal Al-Labban in case of illegal gain

The Court of Cassation has decided to reject the appeal of Jamal Al-Labban, former Director of the General Administration of Supplies at the Council of State, against the criminal sentence which sentenced him to 15 years in prison on charges of having built a illicit gain, and upheld the criminal sentence.

The Cairo Criminal Court had sentenced Gamal Al-Labban, the former director of the General Administration of Supplies at the Council of State, to 15 years’ imprisonment, with a restitution of 173 million and 720 thousand pounds, on charges of having made an illegal gain of 173 million and 720 thousand pounds.

The investigations by the Preliminary and Preliminary Commission revealed that the defendant, in the period between 8 November 1997 and 30 December 2016, in his capacity as subject to the provisions of the Law on capital gains, realized for himself a capital gain with an increase of emergency in his wealth after having assumed a public office not commensurate with his resources, according to what is reported in the report of the Committee of Experts, the defendant to prove the legitimate source.
